These simple tools take into account a user's body weight, the concentration of a product, and the amount of the substance to find the optimal quantity of CBD per administration.

While CBD is regarded as a safe substance, you might still experience some side effects when applying it. These issues worsen with increased quantity. Furthermore, CBD products are relatively expensive, which is why you want to use them in moderation.

No matter the reason, you need to utilize an optimal dose. Whether we're talking about medical hemp oil, CBD edibles, or CBD topicals, the desired dosage will usually go from 10mg to 40mg. Sometimes, this might go even higher depending on the desired effect, item’s potency, your tolerance, and so on.

In this post, we will provide a few tips as to how to use a CBD oil dosage calculator and how to find your starting dosage.

How much cannabidiol does an average person take?

As already mentioned, the suggested dosage for medical hemp CBD is around 20 to 30 milligrams. And while most CBD products are easy to measure as they come predosed (such as CBD gummies and CBD capsule), you also have CBD vapes that are much more complicated for administration.

Dosage recommendations can vary significantly from person to person. Some people might need just a milligram of CBD oil drops, while others will require more than 100.

In most cases, we determine CBD dosage based on body weight. Keep in mind that this is just the initial quantity, and you might need more CBD tincture as you go on. The substance increases your tolerance, which is why the same person will need increased quantities of cannabis extract as the treatment progresses.

Here are the main factors that you need to consider when determining optimal dose:

1.       CBD tolerance

2.       Body weight and fat deposits

3.       The issue that you’re trying to address

4.       Speed of metabolism

5.       The concentration of the product

Every CBD bottle should have the basic info on the label. However, this isn't enough to make the right calculation. The general rule is to start with a smaller quantity and progressively increase it as you continue taking the substance.

How to use a CBD dosage calculator?

There are a lot of online tools that can help you with this dosing.

Keep in mind that most of these are focused on tinctures bottles, but they can be used for any type of medical hemp and cannabis product.

An average CBD calculator works by combining the user's weight as well as the strength of the effects. We can place these potential benefits in 3 categories: low strength effects, medium strength effects, and high strength effects.

As you can presume, most people start with a low strength effect and add their personal weight. Over time, you can change concertation so that it goes hand in hand with your slowly increasing tolerance and CBD requirements. Keep in mind that if you start to experience side effects, that is a good indication that your dosage is a bit too high.

How to administer CBD oil for the first time?

If you’re using the product for the first time, there are several things you should know. As previously mentioned, it is much better to start with a smaller dose and increase it along the way. Here are some of the things we recommend you should do during the first administration of cannabidiol:

Small CBD Dosage

If you’re using a CBD tincture, we suggest that you start 1 one smaller drop of the substance. It is much better to use cannabidiol sublingually and allow it to interact with the gland in your mouth.

Wait for the reaction

After the initial administration, ask yourself how it feels. Can you breathe easily? Are you comfortable, and do you feel calm after administration? You can even take scores for these different sensations.

Increase the CBD dosage

If there is no change, you should increase the dose next time around by one drop. However, don’t overdo it by making a major shift in dosage.

Get to know your body and optimal CBD dosage

The same should be done for the next few days. Each time you decide to increase the dose, try to add just a bit more cannabidiol. Once you finally feel a change to your specific issue, that is, once your symptoms improve, you will know that this is the ideal dose.

We’ve created our own CBD dosage chart that will help you to understand how much mg of CBD you will need and will give you a CBD dosage recommendation based on your needs.

4 General rules when determining optimal CBD dosage

There are several rules you should adhere to when trying to find optimal dosage:

Different people have different requirements

There are simply too many factors you need to consider when trying to find the ideal dose. Companies have CBD dosage charts that recommend dosage based on weight, but the truth is, you should also consider other previously mentioned elements

Because of that, every cannabidiol user should experiment with hemp plant extracts until they find their ideal dosage.

Start with a smaller quantity

While you can use a CBD dosing calculator to determine the recommended quantity, you probably should go with a lower amount of substance than that. Starting small can be tedious, and some people even stop using cannabidiol during this process. They might get discouraged by the results, or better yet, lack thereof.

However, by progressively increasing the amount of pure CBD, you can find just the right quantity that will provide wellness benefits without causing side effects. On the other hand, going with lots of CBD right away can cause extreme drowsiness, diarrhea, and some other issues.

Not every CBD product will work the same

Unfortunately, the CBD industry is not yet regulated the way we want it to be. There are a lot of shady stores that might sell products labeled as CBD isolate, but in fact, these items might have very low cannabidiol levels.

The type of product that you’re using can also play a part. For example, full spectrum CBD oil might work differently from broad spectrum CBD oil. This is why you should try different stuff until you find a substance that works the best for you.

Also, edibles are not the same as topical and vapes. They have lower availability, so you might need a higher dose of these products to reach the same desired effects.

Dosage as an obstacle

Inability to find a proper CBD dose can deter you from using the product. For example, if you're suffering from some major issue, you want to address it as soon as possible. Whether you're using medical hemp oil, a traditional drug, or some other substance, you want this problem to be gone.

Not being able to find the right CBD dosage, that is, going with too little cannabidiol, can also pose an issue. If you're constantly taking minimal quantities of the substance, and you don't experience any improvement after a month, there is a good chance you will abandon the whole therapy.

So, while you should definitely start with a smaller dose, you shouldn’t be too timid to increase it if there are no results.

What are the potential issues if I miscalculate my CBD dose?

If you take too little CBD, there should be no issues for your body. The substance rarely causes side effects, and this is especially true for smaller doses. However, you might experience some problems if you take too much of this chemical.

Cannabidiol might cause the following side effects:

  • Dry mouth and dry eyes
  • Diarrhea
  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness
  • Change in appetite and blood pressure

Some of these side effects may vary based on the product that you’re using. Nevertheless, the general rule is, if you take excessive quantities of the substance, you are more likely to experience the side effects. As you increase it, these side effects have the potential of becoming stronger and stronger.

While none of these side effects should cause long term issues and will stop as soon as the substance leaves your body, they can be quite nasty nevertheless. They can especially be troublesome if you experience them in public.

Another potential issue is of a financial nature. You simply don't want to use too much of the substance if smaller quantities would've provided the same effects. So, excessive use can burn holes in your pockets after a while.
